FORMER Swindon Town goalkeeper Will Henry has signed a permanent deal with Chippenham Town.
Henry becomes Michael Cook’s first summer signing and joins Alex Bray, Danny Greenslade, Joe Hanks, Marlon Jackson and Luke Russe in being offered a contract at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium for next season.
The 22-year-old had played for the Bluebirds on two separate occasions before now, though both times were as part of a short-term loan deal while at the County Ground.
Henry made 10 appearances for Swindon over a five-season association with the Robins and made a name for himself by saving penalties.
Henry saved an Ian Henderson spot kick for Town against Rochdale on his debut, but was most notably the hero in an EFL Trophy penalty-shootout success over arch-rivals Oxford United in 2016.
The then-18-year-old saved three of the four Oxford spot-kicks at the County Ground to earn his side an extra point with a 3-1 shootout win in Group C of the Southern section.
However, plans to break into the first team never quite materialised for Henry, and he did not play a game in his final season at the club before being released in the summer of 2020.
The Bristol-born shot stopper signed for National League outfit Bath City later that year but had to wait until December 2020 to make his debut for the Romans.
It came in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Chelmsford City in the second round of the FA Trophy days after Bath had beaten Chelmsford 4-3 in National League South.
Henry was given less than 10 minutes notice after first-choice goalkeeper Ryan Clarke went down in the warm up.
The 22-year-old could make his Bluebirds debut in a pre-season friendly against Newport County in mid-July.
