JOHN Gorman discussed “wonderful performances” and “putting on a show” as the former manager reflected on his Premier League stint with Swindon Town on Monday night.

Speaking to host Vic Morgan on Swindon Town Official Supporters Club’s On The Sofa With event, Gorman answered questions from fans on all manner of topics across his three-and-a-half-year spell in Wiltshire.

Understandably, the majority of the Scot’s time was taken up with queries and comments regarding the famous 1993-94 season where Town enjoyed a fascinating year in the Premier League.

Asked what his favourite moment was as Town manager, Gorman homed in on more positive aspects of the 93-94 campaign.

He said: “Probably Liverpool away when we drew 2-2. We were absolutely brilliant that day.

“Even when we went back to Liverpool, people would stop me in the street. I went to scout Everton, and they were all saying how great Swindon Town played, and the style of football.

“I’m glad Michael asked that question because everyone remembers me, and I get criticised a lot because we conceded a lot of goals.

“But I was so proud of the lads because we knew we were going to lose most games, but we went out there and had a go.”

Joining first as Glenn Hoddle’s assistant before the former’s departure set Gorman up for a crack at managing in England’s top-flight, the 72-year-old won plenty of plaudits for continuing the free-flowing style of play.

That swashbuckling method helped Swindon secure some memorable results among the plethora of defeats, and Gorman briefly mentioned a handful of the best.

He said: “Even Man United away, 4-2, the 2-2 at home – these games stick right in my mind.

“Beating Tottenham at home was great for me because it was my old team, and Ossie (Ardiles) was manager as well.

“And even better was when we went to White Hart Lane, and we absolutely played them off the pitch and got a draw there. Then we had Arsenal away too.

“We had some wonderful performances, but because we went all out to try and get a result.

“I said to the boys: “We knew it’s going to be very difficult, but we’ll go out there and put on a show!”
