Jonny Williams has been named in the Wales squad for their crunch World Cup play-off match against either Ukraine or Scotland.
Wales manager Rob Page has selected a 27-man squad for their UEFA Nations League match against Poland, before they will be hoping to make their first World Cup since 1958 as Wales face the winner of Ukraine versus Scotland.
Having defeated Austria 2-1 courtesy of two goals from Gareth Bale, Wales are one game away from reaching the 2022 World Cup and await the winner of Scotland versus Ukraine to play-off for their place.
The winner of these play-offs will join England in Group B, along with Iran and the USA and would be set to play against America on the World Cup’s opening day.
Williams will be apart of that squad trying to make history, having won 32 caps for his country and been to two European Championships, starting the tournament opener against Slovakia at Euro 2016.
Page has kept faith with the midfielder since he dropped into League Two this season, with him being selected for each of the squads across the season.
The Welsh midfielder has enjoyed the best season of his career at Swindon in terms of appearances, goals, and assists, having hit the back of the net five times and set up his team mates on six occasions in 42 outings.
However, Williams will be wary not to repeat the actions of former Town defender Paul Bodin who also experienced the chance to send Wales to a World Cup but was unable to get across the line.
Wales needed a win from their final game but Bodin missed the penalty against Romania whilst the game was level in their final qualifier that would have seen them take part in the 1994 World Cup in the USA.
