Swindon Town are being linked with former AFC Wimbledon striker Corie Andrews following his release from the South London club.

South London Press has reported that Swindon are among a host of League Two clubs monitoring the 24-year-old front man.

Ben Chorley and Ben Garner now know that Swindon will be in League Two this season and will set about the task of building their squad for the 2022/23 season to attempt to go a step further than last season and reportedly believe Andrews to be a player who can help them do that.

However, they are set to face stiff competition to land the striker as Crawley Town, Hartlepool United, Harrogate Town, Newport County, and newly promoted Stockport County are also keeping tabs on the striker.

Andrews turned professional at Crystal Palace aged 17 whilst Swindon boss Garner was a coach at Selhurst Park, but never made a first team appearance for the Eagles, and he was also in the youth ranks at Palace alongside Town full-back Mandela Egbo.

After departing Crystal Palace in 2017, Andrews had spells with Whyteleafe and Kingstonians, where five goals in nine appearances earned him a move to Wimbledon in 2021, but he never managed to feature in League One for the Dons.

He spent the first half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Aldershot, where he impressed in the National League, scoring nine times in 20 appearances with the Shots and was recalled in January.

But he was unable to break into the first-team picture at Wimbledon, and spent the second half of their relegation season at Colchester in League Two, where he found the net once in 11 matches, although he only made one start in Essex.

His solitary goal for the U’s in a 3-0 win against Salford City was voted as the club’s goal of the month for January, a smart finish into the near post on the counter attack.

Andrews was close to joining Crawley on loan back in January before moving to Colchester, and it would appear their interest in him remains and will likely look to lure him to the People’s Pension Stadium this summer.

Wimbledon officially announced that they would not be offering the 24-year-old a contract today when he was not listed on their retained list and so he will be leaving Plough Lane when his contract expires on 30th June.
