Dion Conroy has departed Swindon Town following a five-year spell with the club, and being club captain for the past three seasons.
Swindon has confirmed their retained list for the 2022/23 seasons just five days after losing on penalties against Port Vale in the League Two play-offs.
The headline exit is Conroy, who played 37 times last season, his most appearances in a single season since joining the club in January 2017, and scored a memorable goal in stoppage time in a 1-0 against John Sheridan’s Oldham Athletic.
Conroy captained Swindon to their 2019/20 points per game League Two title under Richie Wellens, but also experienced two relegations in his five-year stay, in the 2016/17 season and also the 2020/21 campaign.
In total the Chelsea youth product totalled 96 appearances for the Swindon first team, scoring just twice, but struck up a strong partnership with Mathieu Baudry at the end of last season, showing his strong mixture of a wide range of passing and defensive solidity.
The other players not to have been offered deals are midfielder Ryan East, who arrived last summer from Reading but fell away from the first team reckoning towards the end of the season, and goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem, who played once for Swindon in their 4-0 loss to Westbury in the quarter-finals of the Wiltshire Premier Shield.
Jayden Mitchell-Lawson also departs, he returned to the club last summer having left for Derby whilst in the academy, but failed to find a starting birth at the County Ground.
It was revealed that Louis Reed, Jonny Williams, and Ricky Aguiar are all contracted for next season, and Mohammed Dabre has had his option taken up to extend his stay, after the 19-year-old finished the season on loan at Chippenham Town.
Those four join Ben Gladwin, Harry McKirdy, Ellis Iandolo, Lewis Ward, George Cowmeadow, and Harrison Minturn as players who it was known that they would be staying in SN1.
Contracts have also been offered to the rest of the squad, but agreements have not been reached between the players and clubs.
Mathieu Baudry had previously revealed that he was considering retiring at the end of last season, but he has been offered the chance to continue playing into 2022/23.
Rob Hunt, Akin Odimayo, Harry Parsons, Jack Payne, Jojo Wollacott, and Mandela Egbo have all also been offered to extend their stays at Swindon.
