THE wait goes on for Swindon Town fans anxious for confirmation – or otherwise – of Ben Garner’s exit for Charlton Athletic.
It’s more than 48 hours since The South London Press broke the news Garner’s move to The Valley was a done deal, but there has been no official word from either club.
The report claims the Town head coach will be followed by his assistants Scott Marshall and Scott Lindsey.
The Evening Standard later reported Charlton were still in talks with other possible successors to Johnnie Jackson, who was axed by club owner Thomas Sandgaard after leading them away from the League One relegation zone last year.
Should Garner make the move, he would return to South London where he spent time as a coach at Crystal Palace under the likes of Ian Holloway, Neil Warnock and Alan Pardew.
Before his move to Town in July last year, Garner had an ill-fated spell in the third tier with Bristol Rovers. He was sacked in November 2020, with Paul Tisdale – among the names in the frame for the Town job should it become vacant – replacing him.
Former Arsenal, Tottenham and England defender Sol Campbell is the 4/1 favourite for the job, while betting on the Charlton vacancy has been suspended by the bookmakers.
