SWINDON Town Women have appointed former Oxford United Women assistant Tom Hartley as the club’s new director of football.
The UEFA A licensed coach has worked at Arsenal Women as a development manager while last season being involved at Oxford Women as the U’s finished second in the FA Women’s National League – the third highest tier.
Talking to his new club after being appointed, Hartley said: “Swindon Town will always be a soulful place for me. It is my childhood club and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
“We have a fantastic opportunity to make Swindon Town Women the destination for female football in the region.
“We will be evolving our player-development pathway, creating a system that supports every young woman playing for Swindon Town to fulfil their potential on and off the pitch.
“As well as players, we will help develop coaches to become modern, impactful, player-centred coaches.
“From inspiring every girl to love football, to driving long-term sustainable success on the pitch, there has never been a better time to get behind Swindon Town Women.”
Meanwhile, Town Women’s recently-appointed new manager James Lally also shared his reaction following the announcement.
Lally said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to bring Tom in. His knowledge and experience will improve everyone at the club and is another indication of our aims and ambitions at STWFC.
“We’ve only had a training session and a couple chats so far, but the potential for this club now is clear to see. I look forward to working with Tom to help drive the club forward.
Finally, player-care lead, Laura Morgan said: “We are so pleased that Tom is joining us.
“His experience and knowledge will be key as we expand our youth section again for the upcoming season and look to create development pathways for our players and coaches.”
