SWINDON Town have signed promising goalkeeper Sol Brynn on a season-long loan deal from Middlesbrough.
The 21-year-old's arrival caps a hectic day for Town, with fixtures in both league and cup being revealed and the arrival of assistant coach Jamie Day preceding Tyrese Shade's signing.
Brynn is expected to compete with Lewis Ward for the number one jersey just months after enjoying his first taste of senior men's football courtesy of a loan spell at Scottish outfit Queen of the South.
The young shot stopper made 21 appearances in all competitions before being recalled to challenge for a starting role at the Riverside Stadium.
Brynn has spent 13 years at Middlesbrough, rising through the Teeside club's academy, but is yet to make a senior appearance for Chris Wilder's side.
During the 2019/20 campaign, he was included on the bench for the first-team’s FA cup ties against Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, and the following season in the Championship for games against Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers.
Speaking to Town's media team, Brynn said: “This is a great move for me and I’m really excited to get pre-season underway and work hard to earn my place in the first-team.
“Spending time on loan last season in Scotland taught me a lot. It’s made me a stronger, more confident goalkeeper, and I really feel I have something to offer this season, so hopefully I can prove myself to the new manager and become a regular starter.”
Head coach Scott Lindsey did not confirm if Brynn would be his regular number one but did comment on the stopper's significant potential.
Lindsey said: “Sol is a really important signing for us and joins with huge potential.
“He’s a hugely talented goalkeeper who got his first taste of senior football last season in Scotland and is maturing really well, so we’re looking forward to seeing him develop further at the football club.”
Meanwhile, Town's technical director, Sandro Di Michele said: “I’m really excited to have Sol sign for us.
“He’s an intelligent young keeper with huge pedigree and has already represented England at youth level. He also understands our philosophy which is really important.”
