Ben Gladwin believes that Swindon Town will use the experiences from last year to drive them on to further success this season.
Speaking following Swindon’s 2-0 loss to Swindon Supermarine, the midfielder felt that there were things he learnt last season which will help the team to improve.
The 30-year-old thinks a cannier approach will move Town higher up the table than the finished last season.
Gladwin said: “I thought we dominated a lot of game last season and were brilliant on the ball, but maybe that nous and that experience we lacked at times.
“You could see that with the points tally at the end, if we would nicked a few more points or gotten over the line in a few of the games, doing a few of the uglier bits then we would have been going straight up.
“So that is something that we are looking to add to our game and be a bit better at the dark arts.
“For me, as you get older you start to think less about yourself and more about the team and that is definitely a role that I see myself doing through helping out the lads on the pitch.
“Helping tactically with what the gaffer wants, but personally my role will be similar and I want to play as many games as possible.
“This is a great dressing room of players to come into for the new lads, I know we had a lot of turnover of players but the core group that are here had such a great team spirit last year.
“Things won’t change and we will do bits and bobs outside of here with the group and the staff are great, so I think everyone will settle in straight away.”
With Scott Lindsey stepping up from being assistant manager to being head coach, Gladwin has enjoyed experiencing the similarities and differences from last season.
He said: “It has been great, there are a lot of similarities, obviously the style of play is very similar, but he [Lindsey] has his own way of doing things.
“Training has been slightly different etcetera and we are all really enjoying it and as you can see there has been a bit of a difference and we are all really enjoying it.
“He [Lindsey] is a very honest and open guy and I think he has the lads’ respect from the off.
“Things haven’t changed a great deal, but he is the manager now so maybe he has to distance himself very slightly, but he is still very much involved with the group and is very close to us.”
