Swindon Town have confirmed a ticket price rise for the forthcoming 2022/23 season.
It was reported in the Advisory Board minutes for May that a price rise was being considered by the club, with tickets in the Alan McLoughlin Town End proposed to increase from £19 to £23.
This afternoon the club confirmed ticket prices for the first three league games of the season, and ticket prices have risen but not to the extent initially considered.
A statement on the club website read: “Unfortunately, due to inflationary pressures and increased costs to the football club, we’ve had to raise the prices slightly.
“We hope you’ll understand that with the financial issues we faced at the beginning of last season, we must take active steps to ensure the club can continue to run sustainably, and this is another way we can help achieve this.
“We’ve made huge strides over the past year to balance the books and the football club is in a much better position than it was, and we want to continue building a good financial footing for the future.
“With regards to the rise in ticket prices, we want to assure you this wasn’t a decision taken lightly.
“We discussed this at length at our Advisory Boards with the Supporters Trust and STFC Official Supporters Club, who went out and consulted their members. We then implemented the changes based on the feedback we received.
“We believe the new prices for the 2022/23 season are competitive and will help drive us forward, so we hope you’ll all get onboard and continue to support the club.”
Tickets for adults in the Town End will cost £21, £18 for over 65s and students, £8 for under 18s and £3 for under 11s.
For the John Trollope Arkell’s Stand and the Don Rogers Stand, adults will have to pay £25, over 60s and students £20, under 18s £10, and £3 for under 11s, these prices have also risen from last season.
The proposed price rises were met with backlash from fans and the club has reconsidered, but it will still be more expensive to watch Swindon Town next season.
Dean James said on Twitter when the proposition was reported: “Bad move, with the cost of living going up dramatically this is bad timing!”
Luke Hodgson was similarly against the increase and tweeted: “I think £25 and £20 for town end is fair. £23 for the town end is bad - will alienate fans.”
