Scott Lindsey is happy where Swindon Town are in their progression following a 4-0 friendly win away at Woking.
Some fans were concerned after defeat against Swindon Supermarine on Saturday, but a brace from Harry McKirdy combined with goals from Jonny Williams and Ben Gladwin have quietened a few nerves leading into the new season.
Swindon’s new Head Coach still remains primarily concerned with how the players are faring from a fitness point of view, but saw positive in his side’s performance.
Lindsey said to BBC Wiltshire post-match: “I got out of it exactly what I wanted in terms of minutes on the pitch for the players, we had a clear plan in terms of minutes we wanted them to play for.
“But I thought we played well, I thought we manoeuvred the ball really well, there are certain things that we need to work on defensively.
“I think we looked too open at times, but for the boys we see as first team players we are two games in, there is plenty to work on but I am really pleased.”
Yesterday also brought the first glimpse of new signing from Liverpool Tom Clayton and he recorded and assist for the fourth goal and he was pleased to be stepping into first team football.
He said: “I think Liverpool are probably the best club in the world, but me being selfish, I want to kick on in my career.
“I want to play in a first-team environment, I want to be in a first-team dressing room and so for me I had to move and Swindon is definitely the right place for me to do that.”
“Swindon fit my ambitions, they want to kick on through the divisions and so do I in my career, and with the way I like to play football, I don’t think you will see many, if any, teams play the way we have tonight, popping the ball about on the floor.
“Getting the assist definitely settled the nerves and it was nice to see Macca [Harry McKirdy] running in behind and then just putting it on a plate for him, it was a good feeling.
“I was down yesterday but I didn’t train, so the first time I met the lads was coming to the stadium and I had a few nerves but they have all been welcoming and the staff at the stadium yesterday have been brilliant.”
