Swindon Town are set to complete the signing of Chesterfield midfielder Saidou Khan, according to reports.
European football journalist Jacque Talbot reported last night that the Gambian midfielder is set join Swindon for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal and this was reported again this morning by Will Unwin of the Guardian.
Khan announced his own departure from Chesterfield on Twitter yesterday teasing that he was leaving the National League club to pursue his dream of playing at a higher level.
Khan tweeted: “Struggling to find words for this, but I’ll like to thank the club and the staff and all the players but most importantly the fans.
“You gave me the platform to showcase my talent and skills and for that I'm eternally grateful. I've experienced incredible highlights.
“It has been my dream to play as high as possible even before I moved over here from Gambia, and every step up is a step closer to where I have always dreamt to be. Your support has helped me to grow as a human being and a professional.”
The 26-year-old grew up in Gambia where he was nicknamed “Kaka” after the former-AC Milan player before moving to London in 2010.
Khan joined Chesterfield last summer once his Maidstone contract had expired and he impressed as the Spirites reached the play-off semi-finals and during the January transfer window his club turned down an offer from an unnamed league club for the midfielder.
The Derbyshire Times have also suggested that Oxford United are in for Khan, although there does not seem to be concrete interest at the Kassam Stadium and the reports from Talbot and Unwin would indicate that he is set for the County Ground.
