WESTLECOT women have missed out on reaching another English Women's Indoor Bowling Association national final.
The trio of Maureen Rogers, Josie Lloyd and Doris Woodley were beaten in the Zone nine final (last 32) of the Margaret Ashford Two-Wood Triples.
Seven days earlier at Banbury the trio had together with Julia Eatwell triumphed in the zone final of the national fours and booked their place in the last 16 and final stages of the fours competition, but unfortunately there was no happy return on this occasion to Banbury.
The Westlecot triples team were hoping to stay on course and try and emulate the success of club colleagues Jean Bird, Joyce Laming and Wendy Anderson who won the Two-Wood Triples national title in 2005.
However, that hope faded at the hands of City of Birmingham in the zone final.
They trailed 8-3 at five ends and 12-6 at 10 and were 19-6 adrift at 15 ends before finally losing 13-19.
RESULT: Maureen Rogers, Josie Lloyd and Doris Woodley (Westlecot) lost to Pat Humpage, Di Green and Barbara Tew (City of Birmingham) 13-19.
