CO-MANAGER Alan Dyton is determined to stamp his authority on the Shrivenham team after returning to the club following a seven-month absence.

Dyton made an immediate impact in his second spell in charge, leading Shrivvy to a 1-0 win at Abingdon Town on Tuesday night in the absence of co-boss Pete Horwat.

"For me it was great to be back in the dressing room again," said Dyton after orchestrating a second successive away win for the club.

"I've been doing this for 27 years, but if I said I wasn't excited about it I would be lying.

"It's strange coming in at this time of year because normally I do a whole pre-season, so it does feel very different.

"But a lot of people have welcomed me back and the players' attitude towards me has been fantastic."

Dyton quit Shrivenham last summer after four successful seasons in charge, but has been spotted in the crowd at the Rec several times this season.

Dyton admitted it had been difficult to keep away, and once he got the phone call from Horwat he jumped at the chance of a swift return.

"Pete has done a good job and I think he is going to be good for this football club," said Dyton.

"But it's a two man job and I think he recognised that he needed someone else.

"He called me and I said I was happy to help, but if I was going to come back I wanted to make a meaningful contribution.

"Pete offered me a share of the manager's role to the end of the season and I agreed to come back on board."

Dyton will have no input in team selection for the next three weeks as he gets used to the players and system.

Shrivenham travel to Lydney tomorrow without Tuesday's goalscoring hero Dave Gee, but Michael Silvanus, Rory Sproule and Scott Lane all return.

There will also be a new face on board following the capture of Matty Bennett from Wootton Bassett.

The right-sided midfielder goes straight into the squad, and Shrivvy co-manager Horwat is delighted to have finally got his man.

"I've been after him for three years and we've got him at long last," he admitted.

"There were other clubs in for him but he's signed for us, and I think he felt he could try it at a slightly higher level.

"Matty will bring a lot pace and a really good touch to the team. He's just what you want from a wide player as he can get a great ball in.

"Whenever I've seen him play he's caused defenders and midfielders loads of problems.

"I'm pretty sure he'll do the same for us and be very successful here."

Fairford Town have added promising young striker Joe Dorey to their squad ahead of tomorrow's clash with Premier Division leaders North Leigh at Cinder Lane.

Dorey has signed from Division One West outfit Cricklade Town and is expected to partner Bradley Gill in attack.

Matt Boucher and Adam Snook are both suspended, while Gary Probert and Lee Clark are doubtful with injuries.

Fairford boss John Paget admits his side are on a hiding to nothing and is already looking ahead to Tuesday's crucial match with Pegasus.

He said: "On paper we don't stand a chance, but we'll still give it a go.

"There's no point just sitting back and trying to defend so we might as well take the game to them.

"It will be the Kevin Keegan brand of football, hopefully with lots of goals. If we get a point I will be delighted."
