ASHLEY Edenborough's brave lob 10 minutes from time gave Supermarine a deserved 2-1 win over bottom club Cheshunt at Hunts Copse.

The former Fairford Town striker latched onto Richard Kear's flick and beat the advancing Nedjet Hussein to give Marine a third consecutive win in the Southern League Premier Division.

Edenborough also had a hand in Marine's opener after 29 minutes, heading Gary Horgan's corner into the six yard box for Kear to nod home.

Earlier Tom King had saved a penalty from Darrell Cox, after the Cheshunt striker was brought down by Cedric Abraham in the box.

Cox was not to be denied in the second half however, as he reacted first to Alex Martin's deflected effort to net from five yards.

Supermarine upped the tempo in the closing 20 minutes, and Edenborough's winner was just reward for their persistence in front of goal.

The result moved Mark Collier's side into the top half of the table, just three points off a play-off place, while Cheshunt looked certain to be relegated, with just 17 points to their name from 29 matches.

Ciren are now five points from safety and in desperate need of a win when they meet rivals Chippenham Town on Monday night.

The Bluebirds will be smarting tonight after they twice let slip a one-goal advantage against title rivals King's Lynn at Hardenhuish Park.
