SHRIVENHAM manager Pete Horwat has demanded to see a ruthless side to his shot-shy team, following their 3-1 defeat at Lydney Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
Scott Lane's goal five minutes before half-time was all Shrivvy had to show for their efforts in a game which they dominated territorially, but struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
And Horwat is urging his troops to pull the trigger more often as they look to improve on a record of 42 goals in 28 league games.
He admitted: "All bar a crazy 15 minutes we dominated them, but we weren't ruthless enough when it came to the final third of the pitch.
"They took their chances, and we didn't. We had some glorious chances where it was harder to miss than score, but we did miss.
"We've got to start punishing sides and making the most of the possession we've got - we need to be nastier in front of goal. We seem to take one touch more than what's needed and want to score the perfect goal. I don't know if people are worried, or want the perfect set-up, but I'm never going to have a go at anyone who takes a shot.
"It's all about more conviction and belief. If you can have 12 or 15 shots then there's a good chance of you scoring four of them.
Lydney were 2-0 up inside 33 minutes, before Lane halved the deficit, firing home after good work from Matty Bennett down the right.
Shrivenham looked dangerous and had chances to pull level, but were made to pay for their inability to convert in the 63rd minute when Lydney grabbed a third to seal the win.
Fairford Town were 15 minutes away from getting a point at home against North Leigh, but two late goals saw the league leaders run out 3-1 winners.
The visitors took an 11th-minute lead, but Lee Clark headed Fairford level midway through the second half following good work from Jac Tertois and Bradley Gill.
Just as it looked like the hosts may have been in line for an unlikely point, poor defending at a corner allowed North Leigh to head home, and they put the result beyond any doubt in the 79th minute.
Despite the result, Fairford manager John Paget was proud of his side's performance, saying: "We gave them a run for their money.
"We seemed to match them a little bit and played some good football.
"But we've got to tighten things up at the back a bit because the goals we conceded were poor.
"We showed what potential we've got. We went at them and played a formation which packed the midfield out, and it almost worked."
HUNGERFORD Town progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase with a 2-1 fifth round replay win over Greenwich Borough.
Badar Mohammed gave the visitors a 73rd-minute lead, but two late strikes from Jamie Gosling sealed Hungerford's progression.
They will entertain Whitley Bay in the quarter-final on Saturday, March 1.
