FOUR goals, four penalties and a dodgy heart for the manager - that was how Chris Pethick summed up his side's amazing 2-2 draw away at leaders Easington Sports in the Hellenic League Division One West.

With 17 minutes remaining, Purton were two down, having earlier missed a penalty, but Warren Fuller's spot-kick and an 89th-minute Paul Blagdon effort grabbed a share of the points.

And there was still time for Easington to win the game with a stoppage-time penalty, which was struck wide with only seconds remaining.

"It was a terrific game and nice to get a draw out of it, but I said to someone that I don't think it will have done any good for my heart," joked Pethick.

"We outplayed them in the first half but didn't have anything to show for it at half-time.

"I was a little bit worried that that was our chance gone and so when we went two down we felt a bit aggrieved.

"I was particularly pleased with the character we showed to come from behind.

"This time last year we would have folded under and gone on to concede four or five.

"It shows how far we've come in the last year and we played well enough to come away with something."

Jonny Coole saw his penalty saved for Purton before Easington went straight up the other end where they were awarded one of their own, which was converted.

The advantage was doubled in the 63rd minute and it looked like all three points would be going to the hosts.

But Fuller's penalty got Purton back in it, and Blagdon struck through the keeper's legs before Easington missed the game's fourth spot-kick.

Elsewhere, Malmesbury Victoria continued their revival under the management duo of Lee Marshall and Kenny Regan with a 3-1 win away at Headington Amateurs.

But Wootton Bassett and Cirencester United both suffered 2-0 defeats, at the hands of Cricklade Town and Clanfield respectively.
