Swindon Sunday League
Despite losing approximately a third of the matches to frozen weather, there were some important results in the games that were played, writes STEVE ASHLEY.
Pride of place went to Mercedes Benz, playing their 13th Division 8 game of the season, who recorded their first point in a 1-1 draw at Roughmoor Rangers.
In Division 2, Simon Thompson and TJ Bohane scored for clear leaders GW Nalgo who went down 4-2 at RJK Ferndale. Paul Patel, Neil Matthews, Paul Smith Dave Morse all netted for Ferndale in an excellent win.
Behind Nalgo, Duckhams moved into second spot with a less than impressive home win against Coleshill.
James Bradfield and doubles from Terry Adams and Matt Horsell saw them home to a 5-4 success.
The only match played in the top flight saw Dave Jones net a hat-trick for SKS Blyskawica in a welcome 4-3 success at Juventus JM. Chris Kyle scored the other goal and the Juventus efforts came from Tate Hulbert with a couple and Darren Cummings.
Nine Elms are now ten points clear in Division 3 after their 7-3 home win against Lava Lounge. Warren Fuller with a hat-trick and doubles from Adam Mayhew and Steve Yeardley guided them home. Dave Ford, Rob Smith and Steve Townsend replied for the Lounge (Townsend against his old side).
Dynamo Ashton won 4-3 at Wanborough to swap places with them at the bottom. Bryan Mills and Steve Lawrence netted for Wanborough.
The top two sides in Division 4, Intermach Wheatsheaf and AA Drainaway met at the Premier Club and it was Intermach with three goals in the last 10 minutes who triumphed 5-2.
Tom Bevan, Jon Webb, Steve Winchcombe on his debut, James Winton and sub Matt Boakes were all on the mark for the winners, and Chris and Graham Prictor replied for Drainaway.
Queenstown Sunday joined Drainaway in second spot after their 6-2 home win over Rodbourne Arms. Rob Wallace with a four-timer, Gary McGunigall and Ash Ali were on the mark for Queenstown with James Turpie and Gareth Walton doing likewise for the Arms.
A Nathan Sheppard goal was enough to see Abbey Scaffolding Dolphin beat South Marston which was a tremendous effort as they started the match with seven players and eventually fielded 10.
Dean O'Hagan and Daryl Pretlove helped Village Inn to record an important 2-1 win at rivals Eldene Social Club to stay top. Dave Rendle replied for Eldene.
Inter Sandgate beat Pennoes 8-2 thanks to doubles from Dave Webb, Aiden Doyle and Chris Cox plus one each from Mark King and Mark Onslow. The Pennoes scorers were Carl Harris and Gary Barber.
In Division 6, Dorcan Old Boys won 6-1 at AFC Royston to go top. Richard Jordan, Danny Clayton, Graeme Little, Phil Corcoran, Gary Matthews and Matt Hodey were the Dorcan marksmen with Stuart Key replying for Royston.
White Hart Stratton beat Coleview 4-1 to stay third thanks to Ash Ward, Mark Jones, Neil Payne and Kevin Pocock.
Bear Marlborough had a good 3-0 home win against Pinehurst Community thanks to goals from Mike Burns (2) and Steve Deane.
Division 7 leaders Regent won 7-0 at Carters Rest in the solitary fixture completed. Goals from Martin Brown, Barry Cleminson, Darren Coleman, Gavin Compton and Adam Webb (3) saw them go 10 points clear at the top.
The top three teams in Division 8 all recorded away victories.
Wheatsheaf Stratton won 8-3 at Red Lion Wootton Bassett thanks to Tom Price with a four-timer, Brad Clark with a couple, Carl Marsh and Damien Gwazeni. Stuart Ballinger, Dave Telling and Simon Blake replied for the Lion.
Penhill Aces won 10-1 at Ventrolla with goal machine Blaine Fitzgerald hitting another five which was added to by Mike Young, Dan Hiscocks, Kelvin Young, Kyle Romain and Warren Fox.
Tim Hughes (2), Paul and Simon Litt, Andy Mattock and Steve Hiscock gave Halcrow a 6-0 success at Patheon.
Westbrook won 5-0 at Swindon Macs with Rob Hunt, Ash Stevens, John Horgan, James Joyce and Dave Chivers on target.
Ricky Walklett gave Swindon Snooker a 1-0 lead at CSA Sandgate only for the home side to hit back for a 2-1 victory.
