SWINDON Town forward Harry McKirdy has seen his proposed move to Scottish Premiership side Hibernian fall through after discussions broke down over the fee Hibs would pay, reports state.
Hibs approached Swindon on Tuesday over the 25-year-old's availability, and McKirdy travelled up to Edinburgh on Wednesday night in order to add the finishing touches to what appeared to be a straightforward deal between the two clubs.
With a fee initially said to have been agreed between Swindon and Hibs, McKirdy was supposedly in the Scottish capital simply to complete a medical and sign the contract at Easter Road.
However, Football Scotland is reporting that both clubs have now walked away from the table after the deal changed and an agreement could not be struck.
The Scottish title said: "Negotiations between the clubs were expected to go smoothly but dragged on today (Thursday), with the issue thought to be regarding the fee Hibs would pay the County Ground club in order to bring McKirdy to the Scottish Premiership."
The striker had been in talks with the Hibees for much of the past week. The Easter Road outfit had watched the 25-year-old and were reportedly confident of completing a deal well before the window shut.
But with the option of McKirdy having now seemingly been removed from the table, unless the deal can be resurrected somehow, Hibs will be frantically turning their attention to other targets in order to find a new striker for the next few months at least.
The collapse could not have come at a worse time for Lee Johnson's men, after they allowed striker Christian Doidge to join Kilmarnock for the season on loan earlier this week.
If Hibs are not successful in finding a replacement, they may well have to throw in one of the club's talented youngsters for the time being or pay the re-call fee on Doidge and play a striker Johnson has already declared does not fit into his plans.
