GOALKEEPER Lewis Ward could be in line to make his Sutton United debut against former club Swindon Town tonight.

Town and United face off at the County Ground in League Two, with a 7:45pm kick-off.

Ward played 19 times across two campaigns for Town before departing SN1 on deadline day and opting to join Sutton in order to achieve more game time.

After missing out on the Sutton squad to face Harrogate days after his move, Ward’s next opportunity to play was postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

But with the EFL returning to action in midweek, Ward may well be handed his first start under manager Matt Gray.

Discussing the return of Ward, Town head coach Scott Lindsey said: “We know he’s a good goalkeeper because we’ve seen him up close over the past two years. And when he’s come into the side he’s done really well.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t play, but we’ll have to wait and see. If he does, we’ve got our way of playing and the way we’re going to attack. That won’t change no matter who is in goal for Sutton.

“Whether Lewis plays or not, we have to get on with it and try to win the game. We’ve analysed them all over and the players are more than ready to take on the challenge.”

Sutton will wear their all-black away kit on Tuesday night as they seek revenge for losing twice to Swindon last season.

Town were one of just two sides to take six points from Sutton last year, with 2-1 scorelines in both games enough to secure victory.
