SCOTT Lindsey believes Swindon Town fans are yet to see the ‘finished product’ of his side, after a slightly lacklustre start to the season.
Town’s dramatic 3-2 victory against Sutton United which included a Jacob Wakeling 92nd minute winner on Tuesday was just their second league win of the season.
It was an aggressive front-footed performance from Lindsey’s side, who claims it’s the approach he’s always wanted to play ever since taking the head coach role in June.
“I’ve said it from the start as a head coach, that’s how I’ve always wanted my team to play," he said.
“We want to be possession-based, play through the thirds, play out the back and be front footed, but we want the aggressiveness once we are out on the press, that’s how we’ve always wanted to play.”
Town have shown signs of promise this campaign, however, have struggled to find fortune, drawing five times already.
So when the full-time whistle blew, the sheer joy and passion from the players and staff was evident throughout.
“It meant a lot for the players, they think the effort that they’ve put it as a squad hasn’t been rewarded with the number of points they’ve got so far this season," he said.
In what was a busy deadline day for Swindon which saw five incomings and two outgoings, Lindsey believes that may be another reason for the slow start, with players needing time to gel.
“I feel like because of the new signings and youngsters it will take time for us to see that week in week out.
“The boys have been really trying to do the right things in terms of the way we play.”
Town will be looking to turn a page on Saturday as they look to make it two wins on the bounce against a Doncaster side who are coming off back-to-back league defeats.
Looking to build on where they left off, Lindsey is confident that his side have what it takes to fulfil his targets this season.
“You’re not going to get the finished product this early on in the campaign and I feel like we’re getting somewhere we want to be.
“Within the players and the staff, I feel there is a real togetherness within the group building.”
Swindon travel to the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday to face Doncaster in Sky Bet League Two. Kick Off is at 3pm.
