SWINDON Supermarine have re-signed defender Louis Spalding on a dual-registration contract with Hellenic League side Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
Son of Marine boss, Lee, the club say Louis Spalding has been brought back to the Webbswood Stadium as defensive cover.
The 23-year-old began his career in Swindon Town’s youth set-up before later finding himself at Cirencester Town.
Spalding first signed for Marine at the start of the 2019-20 campaign, but later left for Bassett after finding consistent game-time difficult to come by.
Following 11 games for Bassett with two goals to his name - including a superb long-range volley against Reading City in FA Cup qualifying - Spalding could be in contention for a place in Marine’s squad this Saturday when the Spitfires host Beaconsfield Town in Southern League Premier South.
Marine will enter the game high on confidence after booking their spot in the FA Cup third qualifying round last weekend.
Marine had beaten Southern League Premier South rivals Dorchester Town 3-2 just a few days earlier in the league, and they repeated the trick at the Webbswood Stadium on Saturday.
Henry Spalding grabbed the only goal of the game in some style during the first half, and Dorchester had no answer to keep their own Cup hopes alive.
In the early stages, Conor McDonagh headed an effort against the underside of the bar from a corner.
But with very few chances punctuating the first half, Spalding netted the only goal of the game 10 minutes before the break.
The winger cut in from the right past a couple of defenders and whipped a vicious left-footed shot towards the top corner. The ball struck the underside of the bar and bounced down into the net as Marine celebrated in front of their fans.
In the second half, Ty Duffus cleared off the line at one end before winning a penalty for his team at the other.
Unfortunately for Marine, McDonagh’s penalty was kept out by Harry Lee and the hosts were forced to hang on until the relief of the referee’s final whistle.
