SWINDON Town Supporters Trust return with their bi-weekly column. This time, it centres around celebrating a year of strong communication between club and fans.
What a difference a couple of wins make to the mood and morale of the Swindon Town faithful! It goes without saying expectations were high despite another summer of change at SN1, and there have been some in recent weeks arguing that the glass was half-empty rather than half-full.
Looking back, there was a strange atmosphere where fan confidence started to tip towards ugly, but with a scrappy win against Sutton United, things seem to have started clicking into place. In comparison to last year, the club is one point ahead at this point in the season. It’s easy to underestimate how much time it takes to move through the team-building stages, but we're glad to see the uptick in form and hope it continues.
It was fantastic to attend the first Fans' Forum since Clem took over in the Legends Lounge last night. In terms of fan engagement, we have also reached the 12-month anniversary of the Advisory Board Meetings, and there is a lot of success to be celebrated. As the Trust acts as an independent voice for the fans, collaboration is key to our success. It has been fantastic to see the commitment from the club to be open and transparent with the fans on a number of issues too. This collaboration, where fans and Trust Board members are able to discuss important issues with the club, sets an example to the rest of the footballing world of how fans and clubs can work together to achieve.
The recent news of the dismissal in the winding up petition from Able was joyous. However, Centerplate being granted permission to take over the petition was disappointing. Still, as the latest Advisory Board minutes have evidently demonstrated, the club will pay the genuine debts it owes. Of course, this is less than ideal but serves as a stark reminder of the murky mess the club is still wadding through from the last ownership. The club still has some distance to go on this before it is truly unshackled from the recent past but rest assured, we are confident the club will get there in due course.
With the wind in our sails on and off the pitch, the time has come upon us to unite as a club, a fanbase and a 12-man team, to step up and step forward to do whatever it takes to win every point possible. We have every opportunity to get out of this league if we turn up, make noise and support those 11 blokes who don the famous Swindon colours to be the best they can be from beginning to end. COYR!
