SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey says his team will have to be “on their guard” at set-pieces against Northampton Town on Saturday as the Cobblers have the most formidable record in League Two.
Second-place Northampton have netted over half of their league goals from set-pieces, with the division’s leading marksman – Sam Hoskins – having already scored 11.
A physical Cobblers side is expected to arrive at the County Ground looking to extend that record, but Lindsey is confident Swindon can stand up to the task having only conceded two goals from either a free-kick or a corner so far this term.
Previewing Northampton in his pre-match press conference, Lindsey said: “They’ve obviously had a great start – they’re second in the league.
“I’ve watched them at length this week, they’ve got the highest goalscorer in the league in Sam Hoskins.
“They’ve scored 22 goals, 12 of which have been from set-pieces, so we’re going to have to be really on our guard with that.
“It’s a really big part of their game, and they’ve got a long throw as well. Mitch Pinnock takes the long throw on both sides, and he really launches it in flat as well so it’s coming in with pace.
“They’re really dangerous from set-pieces all over, and that’s something we’ve focused on dealing with in training this week.”
