SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey felt his side dominated from start to finish in the club’s 1-0 victory at home to Newport County on Tuesday night.
The Town boss admitted his only criticism was a lack of further goals after Luke Jephcott tapped in from close range in the 51st minute.
Remeao Hutton cleared off the line in second-half stoppage time to maintain the scoreline – a feat he also completed during the 2-1 win away at Grimsby Town just a fortnight earlier.
MATCH REPORT: Jephcott and Hutton provide heroics for victorious Town.
Swindon’s 20 shots resulted in a fifth win of the season and lifted the club up to eighth on a night where Doncaster Rovers and Northampton Town lost.
Lindsey was beaming with pride in his post-match interview and said there was very little to be unhappy with, aside from a bigger margin of victory.
He said: “We were really good, and I’m really pleased to see it through. I thought we were very good, and I was very pleased with the performance.
“We created lots of chances. If there is a criticism, it would be the fact that we’ve not scored more goals.
“All the time that it’s 1-0, they’ve always got a threat in terms of their long throw, and they put lots of ball in the box. We had to make sure that we stood strong, and we did.
“There was that scary moment where Remeao Hutton cleared off the line. But that was my one criticism, we should have scored more goals tonight.
“The lads were outstanding tonight though. I thought we dominated the game from start to finish.
“I thought we looked strong, we looked powerful, we looked like we were full of ideas – we looked great.”
While the key moment of the night was of course Jephcott’s second goal since signing on loan from Plymouth Argyle on deadline day, no one can deny the importance of the role Hutton played in securing three points for Town.
Lindsey stated the 24-year-old has greatly improved already this season and is becoming an important player for the club.
Discussing the right-back’s performance against Newport, the Town boss said: “He had a few other moments which you might not have seen where he really marked well in the box – we’d done a lot of work on that.
“His performances, in terms of going forward, have been very good. He offers us a real attacking threat down the right-hand side, but he’s also become a really good defender as well.”
