SWINDON Town midfielder Ben Gladwin has been nominated for September’s Professional Footballers’ Association Fans’ Player of the Month award.

Gladwin has played every minute of Town’s dozen League Two games so far and been a significant reason behind the club’s strong start to the campaign.

The 30-year-old has laid on three assists for his teammates so far while being an integral part of wins away at Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town as well as a home success against Sutton United.

Gladwin picked up the Adver Sport man of the match award following the wins over Grimsby and Sutton, and has been regularly included in the shortlist so far this term.

Swindon’s vice-captain also took home a bottle of champagne in the past two home fixtures, voted for by the club’s sponsors.

Gladwin - who is back for his third spell at the County Ground - is up against Northampton Town’s Sam Hoskins, Bradford City’s Andy Cook, Barrow’s Josh Gordon, and the Leyton Orient duo of Paul Smyth and Lawrence Vigouroux for the accolade.

Voting is now open for fans to pick their winner online.

The deadline for voting is midnight on Sunday, October 9, and the winner will be announced the following Friday - October 14 - at midday.

Speaking about his vice-captain in Thursday's pre-Stevenage press conference, head coach Scott Lindsey outlined why he believes fans have seen the best of Gladwin this season.

Lindsey said: "Well first of all, I trust him, and I think he knows that. We've got a really good relationship, and he's come back fitter than ever.

"I think the question on Ben last year was: "can he still play regular football at this level?" I think he's answering those critics now, and I've always felt he can. I don't think he was 100 per cent fit last season.

"He's gone away and, maybe he's rested at home over the summer instead of working himself hard. Players sometimes do that over the summer, thinking they can come back fitter. I think he's done the opposite to that, and it's actually helped him.

"He trusts me, I trust him, and I also respect him massively as an experienced player. I know he understands what I want and how we play probably better than some of the new guys.

"Like I've said before, it's almost like having a coach on the pitch. And his performances have gone up as a result."
