FORMER Swindon Town striker Harry McKirdy has been reprimanded by new club Hibernian over his conduct on social media.
The attacker has been warned by the Scottish Premiership outfit following backlash to a comment on Instagram which suggested he would be open to a return to Swindon.
McKirdy signed for the Easter Road club on deadline day in September following 25 goals in 49 appearances for Town across the current and previous campaigns.
But since heading to Edinburgh, the 25-year-old has struggled for game-time and has twice failed to be named in Lee Johnson's match-day squad. All but one of McKirdy's six Hibees appearances have come from the bench, with the only game he started coming in a 6-1 drubbing by Celtic in Glasgow.
At the weekend, some Hibs fans were left fuming when McKirdy implied that he was ready to quit the club after only two months.
A Swindon fan posted: "Time to come back @HarryMcKirdy" and McKirdy replied: "Not wrong" before later deleting his comment.
The Scotsman reported the 25-year-old claimed the tone of his comment had been misconstrued and said that he only meant he would like to return to the County Ground at some stage of his career, not immediately.
The Scottish outlet also claimed McKirdy has been warned about his future conduct, especially when it comes to online interactions, and has been reminded of the standards expected at the Scottish Premiership side.
McKirdy - who has signed a contract at Hibs which could keep him in Edinburgh until 2025 - is no stranger to online controversy after regularly taking aim at referees and opposition clubs following matches while in Wiltshire.
Back in April, McKirdy was fined £1,000 by the FA for comments he made on social media about referee Paul Howard.
Following a 2-1 victory over Bradford City in March, McKirdy appeared to use a profanity in an Instagram post where he criticised referee Howard for showing him a 10th yellow card of the season.
The caution - picked up for a handball offence during the second half - caused the 25-year-old to be banned for two games as Town lost 3-1 at Exeter City before beating Oldham Athletic 1-0 at the County Ground.
Having been found guilty of breaching FA Rule E3.1, McKirdy admitted that his comments were "improper, insulting and bring the game into disrepute."
