SHEFFIELD Wednesday are reportedly keeping a close eye on defender Ciaran Brennan and hope to see the 22-year-old feature more regularly while on loan at Swindon Town.

Brennan signed for Scott Lindsey’s men in the summer and has since featured 10 times via a combination of starts and substitute appearances.

The Wednesday defender – who sees his contract at Hillsborough expire at the end of the 2023-24 season – picked up the first red card of his career last month for two yellow cards against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy.

He also played 90 minutes in Town’s 4-0 thumping against Stockport County in the FA Cup on Saturday.

An injury prevented the young centre-back from making the match-day squad in half a dozen early-season games, but he has since been handed another opportunity to hold down a starting berth following injuries to Angus MacDonald and Tom Clayton.

Both should return in the first week or two of December, but in the meantime, Brennan should have three more games alongside Mathieu Baudry to show his quality.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Owls’ boss Darren Moore shared a brief assessment of Brennan’s loan spell in Wiltshire so far.

He said: “We have been following Ciaran, and he has been doing fine. What we wanted is for Ciaran to get games. The games build that wiriness and toughness that you need.

"For young players like Ciaran and Ryan Galvin, who is playing at Maidstone, they need that game time.

“Consequently when they come back, they will be a bit nearer to your first team because they have played first team football on the front line.

“Ciaran has been doing alright but he has got to keep going. We are monitoring his progress.”

Meanwhile, Swindon sent two of their young starlets out on loan prior to the weekend’s action.

Midfielder Anton Dworzak and defender Harvey Fox both headed out to Highworth Town for a short-term spell experiencing Southern League Division One Central football.

Fox started the Worthians’ 2-0 win over Biggleswade on Saturday while Dworzak came off the bench to score the second Highworth goal.
