The Vitality Women's FA Cup journey was cut short for Swindon Town Women as they succumbed to defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle Ladies.
The Robins were playing at the County Ground on Saturday in the second round of the competition, having also played at the stadium in the first round.
Prior to kick-off, Swindon took a moment to remember former goalkeeper Carla Heaton, who passed away last week at the age of 22.
Town found themselves behind by two goals at the break thanks to a well-taken brace from Argyle’s Charlotte Whitmore and knew they had it all to do in the second half.
Despite a spirited rally which led to several chances, the home side eventually conceded a third goal, this time from Beth Ireland, and their race was ran.
Although it was not all that lengthy, Town’s FA Cup round has had many positives and shows hope for future campaigns.
A confident 10-0 drubbing of Paulton Rovers in the first round set the Robins on their way and there were definitely signs of spirit in Saturday’s loss.
Helena Butcher-Diaz particularly shone on the wing but was unable to help convert any of Swindon’s dangerous counterattacks.
The Robins are next in action on Sunday, December 18, when they take on Cardiff City in the Women’s National League Division One.
This is following postponements to their league games against St Austell and Chichester & Selsey.
