SAIDOU Khan will miss Swindon Town’s League Two clash with AFC Wimbledon on Saturday while several of his teammates could also fail to make the squad due to injury.
Khan has been officially ruled out of Saturday’s contest due to a concussion he suffered against Crawley Town last weekend, while Mathieu Baudry recently had a scan to discover the extent of an injury he picked up in a friendly against Newport County on Tuesday.
As of Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Ben Gladwin, Luke Jephcott, and Tom Clayton’s anticipated involvement was also not shared by head coach Scott Lindsey after the trio were forced off with ailments in the defeat to Crawley.
Explaining Khan’s status first, Lindsey said: “He’s better than he was. He actually got worse after the game, the Sunday and Monday, he was very bad in terms of dizziness. But he’s better now, he’s back in Swindon.
“We have to go through the concussion protocol with him now, which means the medial team will assess him every day. And then next week, he’ll begin light training in the early part, I would imagine.”
Going on to share more positive news about the health of club captain Angus MacDonald and winger Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, the Town boss said: “Angus MacDonald got through 60 minutes in the friendly against Newport, which is what he needed, so he’s put himself into contention.
“Rushian Hepburn-Murphy played 20 minutes on Tuesday. He came through that unscathed and trained well again on Thursday, so he comes into contention for the squad too.
“But in that game, we did pick up a couple of niggles. Mathieu Baudry had a scan on Thursday, so we’ll know more on Friday.
“I should know who I can pick on Friday, we’re just waiting on a few further assessments as things stand. It’s been a tough week with injuries.”
In a less-than-ideal week for Swindon on the field, Lindsey’s predecessor Ben Garner was sacked by the club he left for in the summer – Charlton Athletic.
Town’s incumbent boss revealed he had actually spoken to Garner twice on the day he was given the boot by the Addicks.
Lindsey said: “Weirdly enough, I’d spoken to him the morning that he went. So we’d had a conversation on my journey in on Monday morning.
“By the afternoon, he’d gone, so we had another conversation Monday night. It was a bit of a surreal one.
“I’m disappointed for Ben, obviously, but I’m sure he will get another job because he’s a good manager, and I’m sure he’ll do well in the next one.”
