Swindon Town manager Scott Lindsey has made a Christmas plea following a poor run of results.
Town have failed to win in their last five matches in all competitions, most recently producing a goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
The disappointing stalemate follows successive loses to Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town and marks a low point for the club this season, with them dropping out of the League Two play-off places.
Boss Lindsey has refused to let these results affect the mood with the coach confident that the team can turn around this negative run ahead of the new year.
Asked what Lindsey would write down on his list for Football Santa, the Town boss said: “To be in the play-off positions by the end of the Christmas period. Then, I think we’re in a healthy position. Please, Santa.”
Regarding recent form, Lindsey said: “There has been a couple of things missing in past games where improvement is needed, such as our decision making, our aggressiveness to get on the end of things needs and our composure in front of goal at times.”
One of Swindon’s answers to this much-needed improvement is specially created training sessions with an impetus on highlighting details
“We have done a lot of work on those final third movements. Will we see the finished article straight away? Probably not as it will take time,” revealed Lindsey.
“We are working extremely hard. We film all of our training sessions and we highlight to the players what they have done well and what we need to do more of.”
The reaction from the squad regarding this type of training has been positive according to Lindsey.
“It’s an ongoing process and the players have been really good and are buying into everything we are doing,” he said
“Sometimes you need that little bit of luck that we aren’t getting at the moment.”
It was not all doom and gloom for the Robins at the weekend though as they welcomed back star player Jonny Williams to the side against Wimbledon.
The creative midfielder had been away for several weeks in Qatar at the 2022 World Cup, but returned to captain Lindsey’s team in their draw with Wimbledon at the County Ground.
Williams himself seemed happy to be back as he posted a positive message on his official Instagram account following the match.
“Good to be back out there with the boys, we keep going,” read the caption accompanying photos from the draw.
Town are next in action away to Barrow in League Two on Saturday, December 17.
