SWINDON Town fans are being asked to ‘Pack the County Ground’ for the remaining 11 home games this season, starting with the club’s League Two contest with Grimsby Town on January 14.
TrustSTFC, Swindon Town Official Supporters Club, The Sir Tom Broadbent Lounge, and The Loathed Strangers Podcast have all joined forces and are calling on fans to turn up in their droves in order to help push the team onto success.
With Town’s promotion chances hanging in the balance at the turn of the year, the four supporter groups hope that the club will open up the Stratton Bank for many of the remaining games and the players can be roared on via a “360-degree red wall of passionate noise.”
After Grimsby, Swindon still have to host several of their promotion rivals, including Stevenage, Doncaster Rovers, Carlisle United, Stockport County, Mansfield Town, Barrow, and Bradford City.
Tom Paris, board member for TrustSTFC, said: “An incredible 10,240 fans turned out on Boxing Day vs Walsall, which was our biggest attendance of the season.
“With the team being right in the mix in terms of the hunt for promotion, and with marquee signing Charlie Austin having arrived, now is the time for the fans to unite behind the team.
“We want fans to turn out in their numbers and create an atmosphere for the last 11 home games of the season that opposing teams come to dread and fear.
“The County Ground is our fortress, and the fans can play a huge part in making it a very uncomfortable experience for visiting teams as we push for promotion.
“Create banners, lift your scarves proudly above your heads, and sing loud and proud to be the 12th man on the pitch!”
The Grimsby game is expected to be Austin’s second home debut, and the dream for supporters is that the 33-year-old will repeat the standard of performance from his first foray onto the County Ground turf.
After being signed by Danny Wilson, Austin came off the bench against Huddersfield Town on November 24, 2009 to score the winner and begin his journey to eventual cult-figure status at SN1.
All four fan groups hope a full County Ground will inspire the striker to fire his club to victory and help them begin 2023 with an assault on the promotion places.
