SWINDON Town fans have been sharing their opinions on what transfer activity the club needs to complete before February 1 rolls around – including new signings, holding on to loanees, and finding a new head coach.

Town began January by bringing in striker Charlie Austin for his second spell at the County Ground, 11 years after his initial debut, before allowing attacking midfielder Ricky Aguiar to head out on a short-term loan to Torquay United a few days later.

With the majority of the January window still to mould the squad into a promotion-winning machine, Adver Sport asked Town fans which alterations they would make to ensure the club goes one step further than last season.

With a key striker having already been addressed, a handful of supporters were keen to see defensive reinforcements arrive along with a man who can regularly supply Austin with chances.

Jason Roberts said: “Two additions minimum assuming we don’t lose our loanees. We need another left footed wide player that can deliver and a centre back that’s got some experience.

“It really is crunch time already looking at the table alongside our inconsistent form. Big board decisions to make!”

STFC Shaun: “No idea what is happening with [Reece] Devine but if Frazer Blake-Tracy to goes back to Burton Albion then a left-back and a winger is needed.”

Scribblemilk called for another former fans’ favourite to return in order to aid Austin’s hunger for goals.

He said: “All being equal without outgoings, a left-back, definitely. I don’t think we can successfully play 4-3-3 with [Charlie] Austin so my presumption is to go to a diamond. If we do, then another attacking midfielder. Diallang Jaiyesimi on loan would fit the bill.”

While the majority of responses were regarding player arrivals and departures, a handful of supporters felt a change in head coach would have the biggest effect on the team’s fortunes.

Stephen Whittle said: “The most important thing is getting a proper manager in.”

Phil Harris agreed. He said: “Outgoings, the manager would be a start!”

Fellow Town fan Ben Nicholls suggested a cluster of new players as well as a different boss.

He said: “It depends who goes. We need a left-back, plus possibly a centre-back and a centre midfielder. I’d like another winger or two.

“I’d like to keep all loans and make Blake-Tracy and [Luke] Jephcott permanent. Most importantly, a new manager. Though I like Scott Lindsey’s passion he’s just not up to it. Team is underperforming. Football is predictable and slow.”
