SCOTT Lindsey has reportedly left his role as head coach of Swindon Town.

Sports journalist Pete O'Rourke broke the news on Thursday afternoon, days after Swindon lost 1-0 to Colchester United in League Two.

It was later alleged that Lindsey would be taking up the position of manager at Swindon's League Two rivals, Crawley Town.

The defeat was Lindsey's 12th in 30 games as Town boss, with the 50-year-old possessing a win ratio of just 33 per cent overall.

In a little over six months in the role, Lindsey failed to win any of his five cup games in charge - the most damaging of which was the 4-0 reverse away at Stockport County in the FA Cup.

His time in charge began slowly with a 3-0 defeat away at Harrogate Town and no wins in any of his first five competitive games.

But following a convincing 3-0 win at home to Rochdale in League Two late in August, Town began to find some positive momentum and soared through September with four wins from five - a period which also saw Lindsey nominated for League Two Manager of the Month.

October began slowly with consecutive defeats before Swindon went unbeaten in the four subsequent fixtures. Two home wins arrived prior to an away draw at Bradford City and a thumping victory over Mansfield Town.

That win over the Stags may have been something of a poisoned chalice for Lindsey, however, with only two wins coming in the next nine games in all competitions.

While results had started to take a turn for the worse, performances were also beginning to leave supporters dissatisfied - especially at home.

With Swindon not having a game this weekend due to Stevenage's continued involvement in the FA Cup, it is believed the Town hierarchy felt now was the best time to make a change in order to maintain the club's push for promotion.
