BOOKMAKERS have opened up betting on the next Swindon Town manager despite the League Two club having not yet made an official announcement about Scott Lindsey’s future.

The Swindon head coach reportedly quit the club last Thursday amid rumours he was set to join Crawley Town as their boss.

But over four days later, no information on the subject has emerged from either Swindon or Crawley.

The Red Devils are looking for a new manager after the departure of Matt Etherington late last month.

In a story with Sussex World on Saturday where Crawley co-owner Preston Johnson claimed Etherington “initiated his own exit” rather than being sacked – as many national titles had stated – the WAGMI United man updated fans on the club’s search for a new boss.

He said: “I want you guys to know that we are working to find the best candidate for this job and for this role as soon as possible, and we should hopefully have some news on that in the days ahead.”

Meanwhile, fans have been allowed to speculate on who they think will take over at the County Ground should Lindsey leave.

Chris Hughton currently holds the shortest price with The Sack Race at 6-4 while David Artell, who recently told The Real EFL he was “definitely interested in the Swindon job” is at 5-2.

In the interview with the football news website, Artell also said: “I think how they want to play and my philosophy are a good match.

“I know they’re going more down the data-recruitment route, which is not something I’m against.

“It’s the methodology behind the data that is key, and knowing what you’re after, and the way they want to play football is the way I want to play football.”

Third on the list is currently former Swindon boss Ben Garner, while the likes of Steve Cotterill (16-1), Paul Tisdale (16-1), and Liam Manning (20-1) also feature.

As well as Garner, a handful of other ex-Town chiefs are backed to return to the County Ground, including; John McGreal, Phil Brown, Luke Williams, and John Sheridan.

Swindon return to action in the Wiltshire Premier Shield on Tuesday night when they take on Chippenham Town at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium.

Both clubs are expected to field mixed sides as they give minutes to players who could help improve their respective league form.

Swindon head into their League Two contest with Grimsby Town on Saturday in eighth, while the Bluebirds host relegation rivals Weymouth at the weekend in National League South.
