CHIPPENHAM Town are looking to sign former West Bromwich Albion forward Owen Windsor, according to manager Gary Horgan.
The Bluebirds’ boss was speaking after Chippenham’s Wiltshire Premier Shield exit to Swindon Town on Tuesday night – a 3-1 defeat that the 21-year-old played all 90 minutes of.
Having played youth football for Swindon and Southampton, Windsor signed professional terms with West Brom before making his senior debut at Cirencester Town.
The versatile forward also featured for Grimsby Town, Newport County, and Carlisle United before his release from the Hawthorns last summer.
Hoping to find a contract in order to restart his career, Windsor has been training with Chippenham since December.
Horgan is hopeful he can add the exciting talent to his squad as the Bluebirds look to increase their goal-scoring output.
Horgan said: “Owen has been in with us for a couple of weeks, and we’re looking – hopefully – to do something with him.
“It was good to get him some minutes [on Tuesday] because he’s got undoubted quality, he can play on both sides and through the middle.
“It was really good to get a look at him. He hasn’t played much football of late, so we do need to help him out there, but hopefully he can help us out too.
“We know we’re a tiny bit light in the area, and we’re always looking for additional quality, but we know goals win games.”
Following the club’s 1-0 victory away at Chelmsford City last weekend – thanks to Joe Hanks’ 31st-minute goal, Chippenham will be looking to extend their four-game unbeaten run at home to struggling Weymouth on Saturday.
Despite sitting just one place off the bottom of the league, Horgan believes the Terras – managed by good friend Bobby Wilkinson – will provide his side with a tough test on home soil.
Horgan said: “It will be a really tough game. I know their manager really, really well – he’s a good friend – and he’s a manager who demands an awful lot from his team.
“He’ll have them fighting right until the very end this season, and if anybody can get Weymouth out of their troubles it will be him.
“I’m expecting a really tough game. He won’t want to get beat by me, and I won’t want to get beat by him, in the nicest possible way.
“But I’m hoping that with our renewed confidence and form, we can go there and take the three points.”
