SWINDON Town head coach Jody Morris revealed he has “a soft spot” for Sutton United but is plotting their downfall as he strives to pick up a first win in the Robins’ dugout on Tuesday night.

Town – who are 10th in League Two – face 13th-place Sutton at Gander Green Lane, hoping to extend their 100 per cent winning record against the London club.

The U’s a team that Morris knows well after admitting that he lives relatively close to Swindon’s upcoming opponents and has played at Sutton’s home in charity games before.

But with his desire to claim a debut win as Swindon boss driving him on, Morris stated there will be no love for Sutton in the Valentine’s Day clash.

He said: “They’ve got a bit of history with a couple of FA Cup runs, so it’s obviously not an easy place to go.

“But it’s something that we’ve got to be prepared for, and it’s important that we focus on what we’re trying to do while imposing our game on them, regardless of the tight surroundings. We’ve got to make sure we’re up for the battle as well.

“But I have a little soft spot for Sutton because they’re one of those smaller clubs who were used to non-league, but they’ve done ever so well.

“The people at the club who have got them into the Football League deserve a lot of credit, and they clearly deserve to be in League Two – they’re showing that with their mid-table position.”

Morris will be without five key players for the trip to London, including winger Jonny Williams following a concussion which was sustained during the 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

In more positive news, Saidou Khan is back from a two-game suspension, and Morris said finding ways to cope with whoever he has at his disposal will be key.

Morris said: “Jonny Williams is out with a concussion. We knew instantly after Saturday that he was going to be unavailable, so he’s going to be assessed daily.

“He took a really bad knock to the head, and he wasn’t feeling great on the night. I messaged him after the game and then again in the morning, and he was still feeling groggy.

“Otherwise, Tyrese Shade isn’t available, Marcel Lavinier isn’t available, Joe Tomlinson too. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is suspended.

“Saidou Khan is back, but no one else is missing aside from Jonny. But we’ve been missing people since I’ve come in, so it’s just a case of trying to adapt.”
