SWINDON Town midfielder Saidou Khan is facing a third red card of the season after being charged with violent conduct by the FA.

The incident which has landed the 27-year-old in hot water is said to have occurred in the 87th minute of Saturday's 2-1 victory against Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium.

A flashpoint occurred between the two sets of players down near the dugouts, with a handful of Ammies players unhappy about something Khan had done.

Referee Will Finnie spoke to the Town midfielder before continuing with the game having issued no card.

Should the Gambian be found guilty, Khan would be banned for five matches because of the three-game suspension for violent conduct adding on to the punishment for two previous dismissals this term.

In a statement from the FA, a spokesperson said: "Saidou Khan has been charged following Swindon Town FC's EFL League Two fixture against Salford City FC on Saturday 18 February 2023.

"It is alleged that the midfielder's behaviour in the 87th minute of the fixture, which was not seen by match officials at the time but caught on video, constitutes violent conduct.

"Saidou Khan has until Wednesday 22 February 23 to provide a response."

Khan - who has only been booked five times otherwise - could end up missing over a quarter of Swindon's season through ill-discipline by the time he returns against Stockport County on March 25.
