SWINDON Town head coach Jody Morris insists he has a good relationship with the club’s technical director, Sandro Di Michele but acknowledged the pair haven’t been tested yet having not experienced a transfer window together.

With many Town fans accepting the season appears to be all but over in terms of a promotion push, several questions at Morris’ pre-Mansfield Town press conference featured along the theme of planning for next term.

The Swindon boss was reluctant to admit this campaign is a foregone conclusion, though, and stated the majority of his attention was first on Good Friday’s Stags test.

But when pushed on his working rapport with Di Michele and how confident Morris is he would receive everything he asks for this summer, the Town boss did shed some light on the situation.

Morris said: “I’ve got on well with [Sandro], but ultimately, the summer is the test in seeing what we can do.

“I don’t think it’s just about how me and Sandro get on, it’s also about what’s possible at the football club as well. There are certainly a lot of conversations that need to be carried on and revisited.

“I’ve got on fine with Sandro, to be fair. But as I’ve said before, it would be rare if we agreed on everything in football anyway.

“It’s no different when you revisit certain areas of the club where you think there are things that need to change or with players you’re looking at for next year.

“At the moment, we’re in a bit of a process. But rather than focusing on next season, I’m trying to concentrate on Mansfield.”

On the subject of players whose deals are due to expire in the summer, Morris said conversations are underway with those he would like to see stick around but admitted nothing is concrete at this stage.

The former Chelsea assistant coach reiterated his desire to concentrate on doing as well as possible for the final eight games before turning his attention to improving next term.

Morris said: “We have to try [and build a title-winning squad]; that has to be our sole focus.

“I don’t think you get any idea of what you’re like trying to build a squad when you haven’t even started that process yet.

“Nothing has changed, we haven’t been able to do anything yet, and we don’t know where we’re going to be with players.

“Those conversations have started, but they need to keep being revisited to see where we go with it. I’m absolutely fully focused on that when the time is right.”
