SWINDON Town head coach Jody Morris believes he can improve the current group of players at his disposal and stated he has seen some development since walking through the door.

Defeat to Tranmere Rovers on Easter Monday made it eight games without a win for Swindon under Morris, with fans’ patience starting to wear thin due to a handful of abject performances in recent weeks.

Even on better days, Town’s displays have never been consistent under the former Chelsea coach. As a result, the club’s faint hopes of achieving promotion are a distant memory with six games to go.

Following the 1-0 reverse at Prenton Park last time out, Adver Sport asked Morris whether he feels he has been able to improve his players so far and whether he feels he will be able to moving forward.

Morris said: “Results wouldn’t suggest [I’ve made them better].

“It’s a funny one because you look like you’re getting improvements sometimes and then you’ll get a killer blow in a game.

“Or someone will make a mistake and then we’ll go behind. And then we’ll have a spell where it looks like it’s affected us too much.

“It’s been extremely inconsistent so far, but there are things that I’m pleased with.

“I do think I can improve these players, but at the moment, when you’re under the cosh or under pressure, you need moments to go your way.

“I’m not here to say whether the players have improved since I’ve been here, but I see improvements. And especially improvements in training, but we’re just not seeing it reflected in games at the moment.”

Tom Brewitt says converations have begun over possible new deal.

PLAYER RATINGS: Town squad assessed after defeat to Tranmere.

A confidence-bereft Town have now conceded 22 goals and scored just 16 in 13 games under Morris.

With four defeats on the trot hanging over Swindon currently, Morris was quizzed on what has to happen in order for his team to start picking up points again.

He said: “We need to defend better and not gift goals away. And add a bit of quality when we get into the final third.

“We created chances [against Tranmere] that I thought we should have scored from.

“And maybe, if you’re not gifting goals, then you might nick a 1-0 win away from home which would be much-needed.

“We had more than enough ball [against Tranmere] to use and cause them problems, but we didn’t use it well enough.”

Town will hope to pick up their first win since beating Harrogate Town in late February on Saturday when they host Barrow at the County Ground.
