Swindon Town midfielder Jonny Williams has said he’s desperate to ‘give Town fans something to cheer about’ in the remaining games of the League Two season, after his sides goalless draw against Barrow on Saturday made it nine matches without a win.

Coming into the fixture off the back of four losses in a row, Town’s performance against The Bluebirds showed signs of improvement, but they were still unable to find the elusive victory they have been searching for.

Swindon tallied up 10 shots, but only one of those attempts hit the target to test goalkeeper Paul Farman, summing up the afternoon at the County Ground.

Following the result, Welshman Williams felt his side were the stronger team, but recognized that they need to execute in front of goal better.

Speaking to the club’s media, he said: “I think in the first half we were very much on top, we looked like we were going to be the team to score first and go on to win the game.

“It’s just not quite happening for us at the moment, it was definitely a better performance from box to box, but we have to be putting our chances away.

The midfielder almost got on the scoresheet in the first period, when he arrived late at the back post to nod in Charlie Austin’s curling effort, but narrowly missed the ball.

Williams admitted that he felt his legs get clipped during the opportunity but decided against going down for a potential penalty.

“To be honest, it’s probably a penalty if I go down, there was contact from a Barrow player just as I was coming into head the ball.

“The referee didn’t give Rush’s [Rushian Hepburn-Murphy] penalty which was stonewall, so who knows if he would have gave mine.”

Although they will be kicking themselves for their wasted chances, Jody Morris’ side will be pleased that they were able to keep their first clean sheet in just over a month.

The 29-year-old says the impressive defensive display could be a building block in turning their form around.

“We’ve shipped a lot of goals in recently, so getting a clean sheet against a team pushing for the play-offs which we’re happy with.

“We know it’s not been good enough recently, but hopefully if we keep working hard, the goals will start coming more often too.”

Town won’t have to wait long for their next opportunity to find a long awaited three points, as they host promotion chasing Bradford City on Tuesday night.

The Swindon midfielder understands it will be a tough test for the out of form Wiltshire side but has said they must keep belief if they are to change their fortunes.

“They’re a good team and we had a strong battle up at their place earlier this season.

“We need to show the fans who keep turning up every week that we want to give our all for this football club, it’s the least we can do in these remaining games.”
