Swindon Town CEO Rob Angus has assured supporters that the club will have a budget and team capable of winning promotion in 2023/24 - after admitting mistakes had been made in this season's recruitment.
Town’s campaign is coming to a lacklustre ending, with Jody Morris' side currently sat 12th in the League Two table on the back of a result of a nine-game winless run.
After taking over the club in June 2021, owner Clem Morfuni almost was able to deliver promotion at the first attempt, with Town suffering a heartbreaking play-off semi-final defeat on penalties to Port Vale.
The Australian’s second season at the helm, while showing glimpses of hope at times, has seen Town unable to build on their sixth-placed finish last May.
Writing in Town’s matchday programme for the Barrow home game, Angus acknowledged that errors had made by the club this season - and that supporters can expect better to come.
He said: “A huge thank you to those of you who are continuing to attend, travel up and down the country and watch online during this challenging time. It certainly isn’t going unnoticed.
“We know we have got things wrong this season and that you deserve better than the results we’ve been delivering.
“We are listening though and will make changes to ensure our recruitment is better, and you have my word that we will put together a budget and team that is capable of promotion next season, with the right balance of experience and youth.
“We are currently building on strong foundations following the County Ground purchase, coupled with Clem’s investment and your fantastic support.
“I’ve no doubt this will propel us forward, but please keep backing Jody [Morris] and the players from now until the end of the season.”
Angus also recognised the support of the Town faithful during the poor run of form, with the club recording the second highest attendance in the divisions’ weekend fixtures for their goalless draw against Barrow.
“To have over 8,500 home fans here at SN1 for the Mansfield game and more than 500 travelling to Tranmere on Monday give the recent run of results is testament to the amazing support we have.
“A huge thank you to those of you who are continuing to attend, travel up and down the country and watch online during this challenging time. It certainly isn’t going unnoticed.
“You purchasing match tickets means we can raise the revenue to invest in the playing squad, and turning up in your numbers will only ever have a positive effect on the team despite that search for a valuable three points continuing.
“Stick with us and renew your season tickets for next term, as it is your support that will ultimately be crucial in us getting promoted out of League Two and taking this club up the divisions.”
