SWINDON Town head coach Jody Morris insists he “couldn’t care less” what kind of form the opposition is in as the Robins’ approach should never change anyway.
Two of the division’s strugglers, in terms of recent form, meet on Saturday at Plough Lane as AFC Wimbledon – who are propping up the table over the past 12 games – play host to Swindon, who are 18th over the same period.
While Town broke a nine-game winless run on Tuesday night to back up their 0-0 draw with previously play-off chasing Barrow, Johnnie Jackson’s Dons have claimed victory just once in 16 games.
Despite some considering the upcoming fixture as an ideal opportunity to continue Swindon’s mini resurgence, Morris is choosing not to subscribe to that theory.
He said: “I couldn’t really care less about the run that other teams are on. That has no impact on how we should be preparing.
“We’ve already seen the difference in results against teams at both ends of the table. People could look at our run – obviously, on paper, it looks abysmal – and see the result against Bradford and say: “Oh wow, what a great performance.”
“Well, I think we’ve actually done just as well or even better in other games and got nothing.
“Going forward, I’m more interested in us building on two decent performances, one with the right result, and trying to build a level of consistency which we clearly haven’t had.”
A significant part of Swindon’s two-game uptick has been down to the performances of the Robins’ defence – and in particular the role centre-backs Tom Clayton and Town Brewitt have played.
The Liverpudlian pair have blocked five shots between them in the past two games while making 12 clearances and half a dozen tackles as Town kept two clean sheets in a row for just the second time all season.
In his pre-match press conference, Morris paid tribute to the two Toms before calling on them to maintain their standards.
He said: “I’m really pleased with how the last two games have gone, particularly from those two.
“Really pleased with the pair of them – Brewitt has had two extremely good games, and Clayton has done really well next to him.
“But, again, it needs to be a lot more than two good games before we start thinking that’s where we’re at.
“It’s certainly a good place to start, and it’s certainly better than where we were in the previous few games.
“They need to take confidence from that but also maintain those levels because we’re certainly a better team when centre-halves are going to win headers and defending our box properly.”
