SWINDON Town head coach Jody Morris says he would be in favour of signing striker Luke Jephcott and on-loan defender Joe Tomlinson on permanent deals in the summer.

Jephcott is on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle, with Town having passed up on their option to make the switch a permanent one back in January.

But the 23-year-old is due to become a free agent in a couple of games’ time, and after scoring seven times in 31 games – including a recent brace at AFC Wimbledon – Morris admitted he could see value in bringing the young Welshman back next year.

Morris said: “Luke is certainly one that you’d consider [bringing back]. But where that would be as far as finances are concerned, I’m not sure.

“But you’d certainly look at a Jephcott if there was some availability or an option to do that.

“Regarding whatever targets there are in those sort of positions, we have to wait and see where we’re at.”

The situation regarding Tomlinson and a potential return largely hinges on the factor which most deals rely on – money.

While Town have an option on the Peterborough United loanee to change the loan into a permanent contract, Morris revealed the numbers recently laid out in front of him make a deal currently impossible.

He said: “I’ve made it clear that I like Joe Tomlinson and doing a deal would be something I would like to look at. But I’m not sure finances are in our league to be able to do that at the moment.

“I’m saying that because of the numbers I was quoted; I wouldn’t even insult Clem [Morfuni’s] intelligence by trying to ask for asking for the sort of numbers I was quoted.

“But you never know, things can change in football. I made Joe aware of the situation, I made his agent aware, and we can only see how that develops.”

Almost the forgotten man in midfield, Ricky Aguiar has not received a look-in since Morris arrived, failing to add to his 13 Swindon appearances this season.

The Town boss said he advised Aguiar to follow up his short Torquay United loan – where the 22-year-old featured just twice – but a move failed to materialise for reason or another.

Morris said: “Ricky hasn’t had many minutes, but I did say to Ricky quite early that I felt it would benefit him if he was to go back out on loan for his own development. I’m not sure where that went as far as takers.

“I think he’s a very good technical player. He does some really good stuff in training unopposed, but at the moment, he finds himself behind others in midfield.”
