FORMER Swindon Town captain Angus MacDonald has signed a new two-year contract with Aberdeen.
The 30-year-old centre back arrived at Pittodrie in January from Swindon, just six months after agreeing a two-year deal with the Robins.
MacDonald's performances have been key in Barry Robson's tenure, as the interim manager leads the Dons' charge for third spot in the Scottish Premiership.
MacDonald, who has made over 300 senior appearances for the likes of Reading, Barnsley, Hull City, and Rotherham United, will now stay at Pittodrie at least until the summer of 2025.
MacDonald said: “It’s great to get the extension finalised and I am really happy to be staying at the club, where I feel so at home.
“I had some good options back in England, but I want to continue on this journey with this group of lads because I really do think we are building something special.
“The fans have also been fantastic to me, and everyone I have met has made me feel so welcome.”
MacDonald is now the second first-team star to sign a new deal after Jonny Hayes confirmed his own extension last midweek.
Manager Robson knows the importance of shaping his squad for the future and was very pleased to see another influential figure in the dressing room commit.
He added: “There is no doubt Angus has had a positive impact on the team since his arrival in January.
"He clearly brings a wealth of experience and has already become an important senior member of the squad.
“We need leaders all over the pitch as we prepare for the final five games of the season, and the news that Angus has committed his future to the club will be a welcome boost to both the dressing room, and for the supporters.”
