THE search for Swindon Town’s next head coach is “well underway”, according to club officials, with a host of potential names already being touted to take over from the outgoing Jody Morris.
Town’s second permanent boss of the 2022-23 campaign was given the boot on Monday following a dreadful run of form since his appointment on January 31.
Morris won just four of his 18 games in charge, with both results and a string of uninspiring performances unable to convince owner Clem Morfuni that the club’s fortunes would improve – even after a summer transfer window.
Adver Sport takes a look at a handful of the coaches who could be next pictured holding up a Town shirt or scarf on the County Ground turf.

David Artell
Artell was said to be firmly in the mix before Morris was appointed and even publicly proclaimed his desire to land the Swindon job back in January.
The former Gibraltar international has won promotion from League Two before and was also named the fourth division’s Manager of the Year back in 2020 due to his achievement with Crewe Alexandra.
Danny Cowley
Almost every time the Town job becomes available, the man who led non-league Lincoln City into the FA Cup quarter-finals in the same season the Imps won the National League title at a canter is mentioned.
Cowley secured 1.25 points per game in a tough season as Huddersfield Town manager a couple of years ago, while his subsequent stint at Portsmouth garnered almost two points a game – still not enough to satisfy the ambitious Fratton Park board.
Karl Robinson
The controversial choice. Robinson is the former boss of Swindon’s fiercest rivals down the road, but led the U’s to a couple of play-off campaigns in a 273-game spell which produced over 1.5 points a match.
Robinson also finished fifth a couple of times with Milton Keynes Dons before finally gaining promotion into the Championship in 2014-15.
Darrell Clarke
The former Port Vale boss took the Valiants from 18th in League Two and hauled them into League One via the play-offs with a limited budget in his most recent role.
Before that, he achieved promotion with another Wiltshire side – Salisbury – at the start of the previous decade and helped Bristol Rovers re-gain their Football League status at the first time of asking in 2014-15.
