SWINDON Town fans have been sharing their thoughts after head coach Jody Morris and assistant Ed Brand left their roles at the County Ground on Monday.
In a statement, Town said the club had “parted company” with the 44-year-old, just 18 matches into a supposed two-and-a-half-year deal.
Swindon are now looking for their third manager of the season after Morris followed Scott Lindsey out of the door at SN1.
In a mixed cluster of responses, some fans were glad to see the back of the ex-Chelsea youth coach.
Chisie Weirdo said: “Happy with Morris and Sandro [Di Michele] leaving. Neither looked right to achieve promotion.”
Ciaran Boast said: “A 22 per cent win [rate] says everything. Club needs a refresh and a change in strategy. Better to act now and get someone in who can start to assemble a squad and put their own stamp on things in the summer.”
Trevor Hayer: “This is the reality of football today. Not surprised he's gone, awful end to season under him. Mr Boring, his post-match interviews were so sombre, no passion, another coach who blamed everything around him but not himself.”
Four potential replacements for Jody Morris at Swindon Town.
DVJesusTwin said: “Poor results. Poor team selections. Poor tactics. Poor game management. Poor subs. Seemed shocked at how basic the facilities were (what was he expecting in L2?) Didn’t take any responsibility and came across like he was doing the club a massive favour by gracing us with his presence.”
Swindon’s second half of the season has been disappointing as a result of only four wins since Morris arrived, but the timing of the decision – with only one game remaining and Town in 10th – left some fans feeling confused and frustrated with the club’s hierarchy.
Paddy Stavros said: “Non-football people making a shambles of, ahem, 'running' a football club. Nothing more, nothing less.
Gordon Black said: “Don't think the club is run by people with a football background.....very poor recruitment and letting experienced players depart in January. Need a new approach throughout the club and if Clem [Morfuni – owner] is not prepared to put money into the club he should move on as well.
Danfransesco said: “Clem decided the blueprint for STFC. This was to play possession-based football using a youth approach. Buying or signing young skilled players that could be sold for profit was or is the plan. The sacking of three of his chosen managers tells me his plan has failed and the managers pay!”
PraLayer67 said: “Three managers gone within a year, There must be something really toxic behind the scenes.”
Others felt Morris should have been given a transfer window to mould the squad into something resembling his own.
Jon V said: “We hadn’t improved under him - but none of the players were ‘his’; we’ve now missed the chance to utilise his contacts for new players.”
Jason P said: “On the fence, felt he needed the summer as he didn’t get any chance in January to do business and we did lose some really experienced players. That said, probably should have done better with what he had. Problem is higher up, though, I think…”
Cameron Harding said: “A joke, an absolute joke. What ever happened to building a project and giving a manager time? I’m convinced he had good ideas, but not only did it take a month near on to bring Morris in, but 2-3 months to bring his assistant in. Club’s a mess and are making it hard to support them.”
