With the arrival of new manager Michael Flynn, and the talk of a healthy budget for transfers, we have looked at who the manager may look to from previous clubs to strengthen the Robins and push for promotion next season.
Cameron Norman - Newport County
Our first player on the list is 27-year-old Cameron Norman who currently plays full-back for Newport County and was a big part of Flynn’s squad in 2021.
His contract is expiring this summer and therefore could be looking for another team elsewhere.
Swindon Town right-back Remeao Hutton is likely to receive a lot of interest from other clubs after a very successful campaign. Therefore, Norman could be a player Flynn might look at to step in next season.
Danny Johnson – Mansfield Town
The next player on our list is 30-year-old striker Danny Johnson. The forward had an excellent campaign last season under Flynn at Walsall scoring 15 goals before his loan spell came to an end.
With Luke Jephcott and possibly Charlie Austin not returning to Town next season, Johnson could be the perfect replacement to play alongside Wakeling as it was evident last season, he played his best football under Flynn.
Liam Kinsella – Walsall
Onto another player who played under Flynn last season, Liam Kinsella. The Irish midfielder has spent the last nine seasons at Walsall but his contract comes to an end this June. The 27-year-old was shown interest from Town back in January.
He is known as “Mr Reliable” to many Walsall fans and could be a key signing for Swindon if they want to push for the playoffs next season.
Mickey Demetriou - Newport County
Onto another player whose contract runs out in the summer which is 33-year-old Mickey Demetriou. The centre-back has spent the last seven seasons at Newport County and was a key player during Flynn’s five years at the club.
He is a very experienced defender at league two level and has a long throw which can be key in this division. With him coming to the end of his career he would provide that leadership and experience which Swindon could use at the back to push for promotion.
Brandon Cooper - Swansea City
And finally, we have 23-year-old centre-back Brandon Cooper who may seem familiar to Town fans as he spent the 21/22 season with the reds on loan from Swansea City.
The Welshman was then loaned to Forest Green Rovers last season in league one where he played 21 games for the club.
Despite not being a tall centre back he was described by Duncan Ferguson as a “warrior on the pitch, who has a keen eye for a pass.”
Cooper was part of Flynn’s Newport side back in the 20/21 season and therefore could be a player to make a move back to The County Ground.
Who would you like to see signed up by Swindon Town for the coming season?
