With the off-season well underway, Swindon Town fans will be looking forward to the next campaign, having appointed new manager Michael Flynn before the final game of the season.
The 42-year old managed Newport County for five seasons reaching the play-off finals twice in 2019 and 2021 where he fell short to 1-0 defeats against Lincoln and Morecambe.
Fans' attention will be turning to what they can expect from their new man.
Former Newport County media worker and lifelong fan Dylan Scarborough spoke to the Adver about what Town fans should expect under Flynn.
“He favoured the 5-3-2 formation consisting of two overlapping wingbacks with a little and large striker that play off each-other,” Dylan said.
“In the 18/19 season he used Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond who had very good chemistry together."
In that season the pair scored 29 goals combined, and that partnership was a big reason why they reached the play-off final.
When asked what sort of players Flynn likes, Dylan said: “He loved a technically creative midfielder who could control the play, at Newport Josh Sheehan was the man he relied on and the Welsh playmaker now plays for Bolton Wanderers.
“In every team of his it was vital they included players with experience at the football league level, old-fashioned type players were essential to grind out results.
“One thing I loved about Flynn was that he was not afraid to create competition within the squad, most notably between Nick Townsend and Tom King back at Newport, it’s a healthy way to keep players on their toes.
“When the Welshman got given the job at Walsall he brought with him Robbie Willmott on loan from Newport and also Jamille Matt."
Dylan said that Flynn's strongest attribute is his passion, and that he "works tirelessly to perfect the squad for every game".
“He’s still very young for a manager at 42 and already has six years under his belt, so I have no doubts he can provide success for Swindon, especially with a bigger budget than what he got given at Newport.”
Dylan ended the interview by telling Town fans: “Back the manager!
"There are not many managers like Flynn who will put all his effort and time into a club, he has produced some gems in the past: Ben White, Scott Twine and Semenyo to name a few so it’s going to be an exciting few seasons for Swindon."
