SWINDON Town has cancelled the upcoming fans forum two days before its scheduled date.

The second event of the season was supposed to take place in the Legends Lounge at the County Ground on Wednesday, May 17.

But club bosses have decided to postpone the forum until an unspecified date near the start of next season.

Town owner Clem Morfuni, CEO Rob Angus, and new manager Mike Flynn were all set to appear at the meeting - although the Australian was due to dial in from his homeland in the middle of the night.

At the first event, held towards the end of September 2022, Morfuni and Angus attended along with former head coach, Scott Lindsey and ex-technical director, Sandro Di Michele.

In a statement released by the club on Monday morning, Angus set out the reasons for Town's last-minute decision.

He said: “Rather than Clem appearing via a video link at three in the morning in Perth, the club has made the decision to defer the fans forum to a later date, where he can be present at The County Ground.

“This will also allow time for new manager Mike Flynn to build his squad for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign and will make for a more timely discussion.

"The club will agree on a revised date with the Official Supporters Club over the coming weeks.

"In the meantime, the club will continue preparations for next season as the club aims for promotion, and supporters' questions will continue to be raised and answered at the Monthly Advisory Board meetings.

"The club would like to apologise for the short notice of this postponement, especially to those intending to attend the evening."

After the news broke, the Official Supporters Club - who organise the forums - responded with a statement of their own.

Chair of the OSC, Andrew Cossens, said: "We are naturally extremely disappointed with this decision being taken at such short notice, with thoughts to those especially planning to attend on Wednesday.

"We will press the club firmly to ensure a fans forum takes place as early as possible in August."

The response from Town fans over the decision was mixed, with some understanding that the club's owner wanted to be there in person.

Meanwhile, others were critical of Morfuni and felt he was avoiding any tough questions by moving the event to a time where the fans' mood may have improved.
